It was twenty years ago today...

monsteralice and I had our first date.
I drove up to Wilmington pretty much specifically to see her. She was getting ready for a trip to England that night, and had warned me that she would be in a packing frenzy and probably knock me over and demand to know where I had put her socks. So I brought her a propitiatory gift of a pair of warm wool socks, which were well-received.
I don't remember the name of the restaurant we went to, but it was Italian, and I had something involving sausage and pasta... We had a great time, talking about all sorts of things.
When we said goodnight, she gave me a considering look for a second, followed by a "what the hell" look, and we kissed. It was a nice kiss.
Not too long after that, we started spending a lot of time together. Pretty soon, it became a relationship.
Some time later, she mentioned our first date, but she had the occasion wrong. So I said, "no, it was that time that [fill in description]."
She said, "That was a date?" She said she'd wondered at the time why there weren't more people along, thinking that it was just a dinner outing. She'd never been much into dating, and the possibility had never crossed her mind...
I said, "Well, now you know." She laughed and agreed.
I love you, darling. Here's to twenty years more... and twenty after that... and so on!
